Parks and nature
Preston isn’t just lively over the summer months, as there’s plenty of time, and opportunity, for relaxing outdoors too.
One of the most popular spots in summer is Avenham and Miller Parks. These beautiful Victorian parks along the River Ribble, are perfect for a picnic, a gentle stroll, or just relaxing with friends. You’ll often find people lying on the grass with a book, kids playing games, and even yoga or fitness classes taking place outdoors. There’s also a lovely café in Avenham Park if you fancy a coffee or snack with a view.
Another great way to enjoy the outdoors is by heading to Guild Wheel. This is a 21-mile cycling and walking route that loops around the city. It’s ideal for a weekend bike ride or a long walk. The route passes through some peaceful green spaces, including Brockholes Nature Reserve, which is another summer favourite.
Brockholes, just outside the city, is a floating nature reserve with plenty of wildlife, walking trails, and activities. It’s a great place to escape the hustle and bustle for a few hours. In the summer, Brockholes often hosts events like outdoor theatre, kids’ craft days, and nature walks. It’s a top pick for families and anyone who enjoys a bit of fresh air and natural beauty.
